Our new adventure begins in the area of Ejutla de Crespo, located 60 km south of Oaxaca city. After taking the Federal Highway, we will finish “off-the-beaten track” in “El Vado”, the starting point of our hike. We will walk along the banks of the Serrano River, where we will be close-up to the great ancient Sabino trees. In addition to breathing fresh air and emerging ourselves in a beautiful nature setting, we will see canyons full of cacti and wild agaves, many species of birds, and sources of crystal clear and very fresh water.
Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit in case you’d like to take a dip!
Our second destination is the community of “La Compañía,” Ejutla. There our friends, Maestros Mezcaleros Gregorio Hernández and his sons Joel and Valentín, will be waiting for us to conduct a tasting of artisanal Mezcal. Our mezcal friends will provide an in-depth talk about mezcal, explaining what makes the mezcal they produce unique, and how they are preserving this ancestral art. Mezcalero Joel will also provide a sample of the famous beef sausage of Ejutla.
