Half-day tour. Comprehensive walking city tour to explore highlights of Oaxaca city

Description

Oaxaca de Juárez is a colorful and magical place! Get ready to delve into the history of Oaxaca with the help of your local bilingual guide.

Immerse yourself in the history and top attractions of Oaxaca as you see several of the main sights of the city, including the Temple of Santo Domingo, the IIAGO (Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca), and the Museum of Cultures. We will make sure you have a great time enjoying a unique and local perspective of Oaxaca.

Want to take a break? Leave it to your local guide! This is the opportunity to sit under the shade of the laurel trees in Carmen Alto. Here your guide will explain important aspects of the history of Oaxaca and some aspects of the life of Benito Juárez, considered by most Mexicans to be our most important president. Our adventure will continue to the centuries-old aqueducts of Xochimilco. Something to eat and take another break? The Organic Market (Wednesday to Saturday) is the ideal place to enjoy a local delicacy. Don’t hesitate to ask your guide for recommendations of the best things to do in Oaxaca.

To conclude this walk through the historic center, we will stroll down the pedestrian-only “Andedor Alcalá” during which your guide will explain the architectural highlights and important buildings including the city library and schools. Vendors from local villages will offer a large variety of artisan crafts for sale. From there will arrive at the main plaza of the city, called the “zocalo” which is the location of the cathedral, Palace of the State Government, and the large gazebo. This is a wonderful place to relax, soak up the city vibe, and take photos.

Lastly, we will walk a couple of blocks to the large Benito Juárez and 20th of November markets with their vast array of fruits and vegetables, breads, prepared foods, woven goods, sandals, and more. For the adventurous visitors, you can sample two local delicacies: Chapulines (friend grasshoppers) and chicatanas (ants). Or just have a mushroom and squash flower quesadilla … or a smoothie!
